This video demonstrates a gentle version of a traditional Sun Salutation from a chair! It is perfect for yoga beginners and other Christians who prefer to exercise from a chair and experience the many benefits of Christ-centered yoga.
Sun Salutations are often used in many yoga classes as part of the warm-up to prepare the body for the rest of the yoga practice. When combined with the words of The Lord's Prayer, this sequence can become much more than a simple warm-up for Christians. It can become a moving meditation that limbers up your body as it focuses your mind on God!
I invite you to download a FREE GUIDE with photos showing each movement here: https://christ-centered-yoga-reflections.ck.page/950e22467c
The guide can be used to help you memorize each movement so that your mind will be free to focus on The Lord's Prayer and meditate on it as you practice.
Please take a few minutes to do some neck rolls and gentle stretches before beginning the Sun Salutations with me, or on your own. I also provide some breathing guidance in the video but begin by taking several long, deep breaths, inhaling and exhaling through your nose.
One note of caution: If you have been diagnosed with osteopenia or osteoporosis, use care with the forward folds in the sequence. You may want to fold only partway and keep your spine fairly straight. Then return to seated with a nice, straight spine.
In the video, I take you through the series of postures twice; once with my cues and once with the words of The Lord's Prayer. You can use any version of The Lord's Prayer with this sequence. The postures in the video and the free guide are:
You can perform this series of movements slowly and mindfully a few times to finish your warm-up before continuing with your Christ-centered chair yoga practice, or whenever you want to limber up your body and focus your mind on God!
